Scooby Doo has got to be one of the top dogs (a Great Dane to be precise) on everyone’s list. When the first episode aired on September 13, 1969 it was an immediate hit. The show was created to give concerned parents a break from some more violent cartoons that had been coming out in the time period, thus the more comedic characters and plots. The show has continued to be successful, even becoming several movies and spin-offs of the original series. It is no wonder why people would want to dress up in Scooby Doo costumes every year for Halloween.
Of course, Scooby Doo costumes aren’t just about Scooby Doo. The original story line had five main characters: Scooby Doo, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Scooby’s best friend Norville “Shaggy” Rogers. The crew would travel around in their Mystery Machine and solve supernatural happenings, which would usually turn out to be a criminal hiding their tracks or scaring someone away. In the later version of the show, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, several guest stars would appear in the episode to help the team out, only to go their separate way at the end of the show. Some of these famous co-stars included Batman and Robin, Josie and the Pussycats, the Addams Family, the Three Stooges, and the Harlem Globetrotters. Many of the characters appeared more than once. One of the only characters to be added to the show was Scooby’s young nephew Scrappy Doo. However, everyone who has seen the show will tell you that Scooby was the star of them all.
